Rebecca's life is a powerful testament to resilience, moving from a childhood fractured by the foster care system and the trauma of abuse to becoming a dedicated community leader. After enduring family separation, the suicide of her father, and her own struggles with addiction, gang involvement, and incarceration—which led to the loss of her children—she reached a definitive turning point following the 2011 murder of her brother, Joseph Cruz. Fueled by a newfound faith and the support of her husband, Shawn, Rebecca transformed her pain into a mission of service. She successfully fought to reunite her family, holding the system accountable for the further abuse her daughters suffered in their foster home, and went on to found Amiasway and Parenthub. Today, she works as a mentor and advocate, helping at-risk families navigate the same systems that once failed her, proving that one's past does not define their future, but rather how they rise after the fall.
